Alisha Marie Adams is a multidisciplinary artist, with a strong visual arts, and therapeutic arts background. Since graduation with her Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Ceramics in 2018 from the Alberta College of Art + Design Alisha has been an artistic ceramics instructor at the Indefinite Arts Centre, and has had the opportunity to facilitate a variety of workshops and projects including a public art project in partnership with the City of Calgary. She received her a Level 1 certification in Expressive Arts Therapy in 2013 from the Prairie Institute of Expressive Arts Therapy. She has been an apprentice at Trespasser Ceramics from 2014-2020. Recently Alisha has begun to branch out into painting and mural work as a way to continue to work as a visual artist. Raised in rural Nova Scotia, Alisha currently resided in Calgary, Alberta. Working in an intricate manner, Alisha’s work is extremely detailed and always rewards a closer look. These details help tie together ideas and evoke deeper thought and contemplation. The tedious nature of her work helps Alisha deal with internal anxieties while also helping to ground the artist in her practice. Themes present in Alisha’s work are strongly tied to narrative, nature, and traditional Mi’kmaq stories and teachings. She often used artwork as a way to work through past trauma, as well as express her own lived experiences as an artist with psychiatric disabilities.
